Cognitive Processing Therapy for Trauma

ocean

Most people with eating disorders have co-morbid trauma and/or PTSD. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy that has been effective in reducing symptoms of PTSD that have developed after a variety of traumatic events. It is generally delivered in 12 sessions and helps you to modify the unhelpful beliefs that you have yourself, others and the world. The reason why I like this model of trauma therapy is because you do not actually have to discuss the traumatic event in detail in order to heal from it. I offer this to clients individually if it is appropriate and there is commitment to doing this therapy. If you are deeply struggling with eating disorder symptoms, this therapy may need to revised for a later time. I assess on a case-by-case basis.
