About Me

Meghan new

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor licensed in Oregon. I specialize in the treatment of eating disorders and all my clinical experience and training has been working with people struggling with eating disorders. I work with all eating disorders including binge eating, bulimia, anorexia, ARFID. I have a lot of experience working with body image distress, compulsive exercise and internalized fatphobia. I hold a specialty certification in the treatment of eating disorders from Lewis and Clark College and previously worked for nearly four years at the PHP and IOP level of care in local eating disorder treatment centers. Being recovered myself, I know how difficult it can be to recover and the hopelessness that can come along with recovery at times. I believe that some people fully recover from eating disorders (if that is what the client wants) with the right resources , but I also work from a harm-reduction approach and recognize that recovery is not a perfect process. I collaborate with clients about what is important to them and empower them to make their own decisions. I do not believe in demonizing the eating disorder and recognize it serves a purpose and want to reduce shame around behaviors.

My therapeutic style is blunt, honest, authentic and straightforward with a little humor (we all need to laugh). The eating disorder tells us enough lies, so you can count on me to be the voice of reason. I will also be encouraging and empathetic and see you as the expert of your own experience. I believe that therapy should be a conversation and therapists should be relatable and real. I will walk along side you and encourage and challenge you in your recovery journey. I decided to build the outpatient plus level of care mostly because I was tired of people relapsing due to lack of support and accountability. When I worked at the PHP and IOP level of care I began to realize how little support is available after discharge and how important continued peer support is in eating disorder recovery. I also recognized the need for people to get a higher level of care faster, so at times I may encourage that. I work with adults with eating disorders only. I also work from a HAES (health at every size) approach. I am committed to anti-racist practices and welcome all bodies and identities. I enjoy researching the latest developments in the eating disorder field and am a perpetual student.

*I am currently accepting for groups, but have a waitlist for individual services. If you are on my waitlist, that means you are on a list to receive an assessment, which is not a guarantee of services. By being on my waitlist, I am not your therapist on record or your acting therapist. You are simply, waiting for an assessment to see if becoming an individual client is indicated.*

* If you are looking for weight-loss, I work from a framework of listening to your body and reducing behaviors (if that is something you are interested in). Sometimes that results in natural weight loss and sometimes it does not.  I do not believe in restriction and restrictive eating, it usually backfires. If losing weight is your main motivation to seek services, I may not be the best fit for you.*
